Heart of an Orphan

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Editor’s note: This story, like so many others, highlight the racial injustices that happen to African-Americans on a daily.

Where I grew up there was this little store that people went to. It was a good store; always have what you need when you need it.

The only thing is that the owners of the store were very critical of the African-Americans that shopped there.  For instance they would single me or any person of color out every time we were in the store — even when the store was full, and “fix” what ever had been touched.

One day my mother asked why did they just single out the people of color and they told her something along the lines of they had to make sure nothing was stolen.

I was in total shock because that was my first experience of racial injustice.
